Preppy Spring... in January

It was a beautiful springlike day today, so we took a road trip to Hudson, NY. The weather was perfect for walking up and down Warren Street, going from antique shop to antique shop. We ate brunch at a French cafe, Le Perche. The interior was very cozy with a wood burning fireplace, and the food was simply delicious.

Winter Hunter

Hunter boots are an essential in my winter wardrobe. Here, I am wearing a matte black pair, but I also love some of the brighter color ones.

Emerald Green

Even though it was quite cold this morning, I decided to wear a skirt. I love the color and texture of this skirt; it brightened up my otherwise all black outfit.

Boscolo Hotel, Budapest

   The Boscolo Hotel in Budapest offers beautiful rooms for your stay, but even if you lodge elsewhere, it is worth a visit. The hotel has two restaurants, a fine dining and a cafe style one. Unfortunately the fine dining restaurant was closed during our visit, but the cafe did not disappoint. Just look at the pictures, the decor speaks for itself!

Cashmere, leather and fur

   We arrived home and so did the frigid cold. For dressing in this cold weather, I always opt for clothes made of natural fabric and materials. A good quality wool coat is essential in keeping you warm. I like the fur accent on mine to keep me especially toasty. Unfortunately wool coats are very bulky and difficult to pack, so when traveling I tend to pack a down coat even though I like the look and elegance of a wool coat so much better.
   Under my coat I am wearing a cashmere sweater. I love the warmth it provides, but don't like the feel against my skin, so I am wearing a cotton button down under it.
   My leather pants are the warmest pants I own. No wind will ever penetrate these. There is a slight stretch to the fabric making it also very comfortable to wear.

Beautiful Budapest

   I love coming to Budapest as this is the city I grew up in. These picures are of my favorite parts of the city. Vaci street is a walking street with many shops to stop by. At the end of the street, at Vorosmarty square, there is a great Christmas market. Hungarian markets have many handcrafted gifts to choose from as well as traditional Hungarian food. I am eating langos, fried dough covered in sour cream and grated cheese. I also had the best hot chocolate of my life here!  

   Hosok tere is another favorite of mine. It is a giant square with statues towering over it. A short walk from Hosok tere is Vajdahunyad vara. This castle offers great architecture on the outside and a museum of agriculture on the inside. Right outside of the castle is an ice skating ring. In the summer it turns into a pond for rowing a boat and feeding ducks! We will have to come back in the summer next time!

Christmas in Vienna

   I love Austria, it's one of my favorite countries. We usually travel to the Alps as I love the snow capped mountains, but this year we decided to go to the eastern part of the country and visit Vienna. This culturally and historically rich city has a lot to offer to any visitor.
   We booked a hotel in the center of the city, so everything we wanted to see was within walking distance. We visited many Christmas markets. Viennese markets have many booths for food and drinks interspersed with a few booths offering handcrafted gifts. Holding a hot spiced wine is essential in keeping your fingers warm; nearly everyone walks around with one, even children, as it comes in an alcohol free version.
   The Spanish Riding School is also a must see, especially for horse lovers like my husband and I. We decided to see not only a night performance, but a morning practice as well. It was very interesting to see the training of horses at different ages and levels.
